So, here’s what I’ve learned:
“It’s not enough to just say, ‘20% off’ in my shop and wait for sales.”

Here’s the truth:
Offering a blanket 20% off sale might seem like the easiest option, but it’s not enough anymore. With so many designers doing the same thing, your offer can easily get lost in the crowd.

Shoppers today are looking for deals that stand out—something unique, like pattern bundles, exclusive offers, or added value that feels irresistible. If your offer doesn’t catch their attention, they’ll move on to someone else who does.

Now, let me guess—you’re probably feeling some of these right now:

  • 🤯 You’re overwhelmed just thinking about planning your campaign, deciding what to post, and not knowing where to start.
  • 💬 You’re worried about coming across as “too salesy” or awkward when promoting your offers.
  • 🛑 You’ve missed out on past opportunities because you didn’t have a clear Black Friday strategy.

I want you to know this:

You’re NOT alone in the challenges you’re facing.

In fact, knowing that you’re experiencing these struggles is actually exciting to me because it tells me that today’s video will be incredibly helpful for you.

Why Black Friday is THE Golden Opportunity Crochet Designers Cannot Afford to Miss

It might seem like Black Friday is all about big retail brands and flashy sales, but as crochet designers, we have just as much reason to step up! Our customers are looking for amazing deals too, and they deserve the same excitement and value as everyone else.

Personally, I wait all year for Black Friday to snag great yarn deals or finally grab patterns I’ve bookmarked at a discount. Buying makes me happy. Deals make me happy. And let’s be honest—Black Friday is all about creating that win-win moment for both buyers and sellers.

This shopping day is HUGE. It’s your chance to put your patterns in front of excited, motivated customers who’ve been waiting for these kinds of offers. Whether you already have plans or are just starting to think about Black Friday, I’ll help you find clarity and increase your profits. Let’s work smarter, not harder, and make your patterns stand out this year!

A Quick Note on Selling with Integrity

When we sell with integrity, we’re offering genuine solutions that our audience truly values. By creating offers with care and respect, sales become not about pressure but about connection and joy.

So let’s embrace this opportunity, give our customers the deals they deserve, and ensure our business thrives in the process. After all, when we succeed, we can give back more—to our community, to the world, and to ourselves. Because remember: you can’t pour from an empty cup.

  1. A Ready-to-Buy Audience

On Black Friday, shoppers are actively looking for deals, and are ready to spend. Many buyers (including me) have been waiting for this event to start their holiday shopping, making them more likely to take advantage of your offers. Many are looking for crochet patterns to create handmade, unique gifts for the holidays, cozy projects for themselves, or simply a relaxing creative outlet amidst the end-of-year rush.

If you skip black Friday, you skip extra visibility and sales, your patterns remain unseen by eager buyers.

  1. Generate Significant Revenue Quickly

Black Friday sales are all about driving a high volume of sales within a short period. This concentrated income boost can make a big impact on your monthly revenue, and provide extra income to invest in your business and even fund your next home project. This event is a chance to drive sales on bundles and larger offers, as our customers are looking to make special purchases, that they might not have considered otherwise. This is a nice way to end the year.

Skipping it means leaving money on the table.

  1. Expand Your Audience and Build Brand Awareness

By promoting your patterns during Black Friday, you can attract new customers, who may not have previously known about your brand. This visibility helps you reach a larger audience, build brand awareness, and encourage buyers to follow you, for future pattern releases and updates. New customers gained during Black Friday may become raving fans who are excited to see what else you offer throughout the year.

Skipping it means losing Potential Customers: Buyers discovering other designers’ deals might overlook your brand entirely, even after the holiday season.

  1. Reward and Engage Existing Customers

We are here to serve our customers. Black Friday is a great time to show appreciation for your loyal followers. Offer exclusive discounts, early access, or bonus patterns can that are exclusive and make your current customers feel valued, like they are. Engaging your existing customers with special perks not only helps boost sales, but also strengthens their loyalty to your brand, making them more likely to purchase from you in the future.

Skipping it means falling behind competitors: Designers who participate will build momentum and audience loyalty, giving them an edge you could miss.

Now that you know why we need to participate as designers in Black Friday, lets talk about:

How to Maximize Your Pattern Sales This Black Friday

To make the most of this Black Friday, we do not want to throw spaghetti on the wall. It will not stick and it will get very messy! We want a neat and clean plan that attracts buyers, encourages engagement, and simplifies buying for our customers, and the entire process for us.

So lets see what you have to do:

Step 1. Plan your Offers with Intention

Choose offers that resonate with your audience. They should be something that your audience is happy to buy and wants to buy, and that will maximize your potential for sales.

So how can you do this?

First Highlight Your Best-Selling Patterns:

Take a look at your sales data and identify which patterns have been most popular throughout the year. These are often the ones that will perform best during Black Friday, since they already appeal to your audience.

Then Create Pattern Bundles:

Bundling related patterns (such as holiday decor, winter accessories, or beginner-friendly projects) and price them in a way that’s irresistibly attractive to customers while keeping your profit margins healthy. This gives customers added value.

You can also offer Limited-Time Exclusives:

Create an exclusive pattern or bundle that’s only available during Black Friday. Customers will want to act quickly when they know it’s a limited offer that they don’t want to miss, because it’s so great.

Step 2: Execute with the perfect strategy

My 3 step framework for success.

  1. Pre-Launch: Building Anticipation and Setting Up for Success

The pre-launch phase is your opportunity to build excitement, prime your audience, and set the stage for a successful Black Friday sale. Your goal here is to engage your customers early, creating a buzz and a sense of anticipation, that makes them look forward to your sale. Prelaunch can make or break your black Friday sale.

Engagement Tactics to Build Excitement
  • Tease the Sale on Social Media: Share sneak peeks on social media channels of patterns that will be part of the sale. Use close-up shots, behind-the-scenes insights, and inspirations behind the patterns to spark curiosity. Create posts that generate excitement, and make your audience eager for what’s to come.
  • Use Interactive Content: Poll your followers to find out which patterns they’d love to see on sale, or set up a countdown to Black Friday. Interactive elements not only keep your brand visible but also provide you with valuable insights into which offers will resonate most.
Ensure your Listings are Ready to Sell

Make the customer journey from browsing to purchasing as easy and enjoyable as possible.

  • Update and Optimize Listings: Add fresh, high-quality photos, updated descriptions, and clear pattern descriptions. Be sure to feature any special bundles or discounts in the listing titles and/or photos and/or descriptions.
  • Create a Seamless Checkout Process: Whether you sell on Etsy, Ravelry, or your own website, make sure the checkout process is streamlined. Test it ahead of time to eliminate any unnecessary steps and confirm that discount codes work correctly.
  1. Launch: Going Live and Driving Immediate Sales

When Black Friday arrives, it’s time to execute a high-energy launch. Be ready to go all in with your promotions to drive immediate sales, and keep the excitement alive.

High-Energy Promotion
  • Announce with a Bang: Kick off your sale with a excited email to your subscribers and an eye-catching social media post. Highlight the main offers, time-limited deals, and the unique value of your Black Friday sale.
  • Create Urgency: Remind your audience of sale expiration with countdown timers, reminders, and clear calls to action! You want to let them know about when your awesome offer or offers will go away! They will be sad to have missed it! I know I track all the black Friday sales and get very sad if I miss any!
  • Respond Quickly: Be responsive to customer questions on social media and in your inbox. Addressing inquiries promptly can boost conversions and reassure potential buyers.
  • Leverage Social Proof: Share customer testimonials or feedback to create trust and confidence. A customer is more likely to purchase when they like and trust you.

Preparation Tip: Schedule your social media posts and emails before the launch. Pre-planning saves time and prevents last-minute overwhelm, making it easier to stay consistent throughout the sale.

3. Post-Launch: Following Up and Building Lasting Customer Relationships

The post-launch phase focuses on nurturing the connections you made during the sale. This is your chance to turn one-time Black Friday buyers into loyal, repeat customers and set the groundwork for future success.

  • Thank Customers with a Follow-Up Email: Send a heartfelt thank-you email to everyone who purchased. Show appreciation for their support, and express excitement to see what they’ll create with your patterns. This personal touch builds goodwill and shows your customers that you’re all about putting them first.
  • Encourage Social Sharing: Invite customers to share photos of their finished projects using a hashtag, or by tagging your profile. Not only does this build a community feel, but it also expands your reach as new potential followers see these shared creations.
  • Invite Customers to Stay Connected: Extend an invitation to join your newsletter, or follow you on social media for future updates, patterns, and exclusive offers. Turning Black Friday customers into regular followers strengthens your brand’s support base and prepares them for future promotions.
  • Reflection and Improvement
Once the sale wraps up, take some time to review how everything went. Look at what worked well, pinpoint areas for improvement, and use this knowledge to improve your future sales.

Lets talk about why Most Designers Struggle to Execute These Steps
