How do you make this crochet cowl?/ Construction

This is a pattern for advanced beginners, using only double crochets and chain stitches. This cowl is made in a round, with no seaming and no shaping involved. We will start with chaining the circumference. Then turn it into a ring, and work the rounds till we have the height we want.

What is the size of a crochet cowl for adults?

How wide is a crochet cowl? What is the circumference of the cowl?

A crochet cowl circumference must be wide enough to fit our head (adult head circumference is 22- 24”), because we usually slip the cowl on. The width/ circumference of the cowl can vary greatly. An infinity cowl will have a very large circumference so that it can be folded and worn around the neck.

What is the height of a crochet cowl? How tall should a crochet cowl be?

The height of the cowl can be variable, most prefer a height of 10- 14” for adults. Adjust the height by adding more rows for a taller cowl, and removing rows for a shorter cowl.

How do I resize a crochet cowl?

This depends on the pattern repeat. This cowl chain is made in multiples of 12. Chain any multiple of 12 as long as it fits around your head.

To adjust the height, add more rows for a taller cowl, and remove rows for a shorter cowl. Remember to end at a multiple of 3 for this pattern (explained below).

Inspiration

The name Cadie means rhythmic flow of sounds. This cowl pattern is exactly like a rhythmic repeat, hence the name seemed apt to me. I made the matching shrug first and the pattern was so much fun I was inspired to design a cowl as well.
