Dragonfly Garden Shrug: Crochet Cocoon Cardigan Pattern

🌟Meet Your Favorite Cocoon Shrug: The Dragonfly Garden Shrug 🌟

I’ve always loved dragonflies — the way they hover, glide, and almost shimmer in the air. They feel calm and magical at the same time, like little reminders to slow down and notice what’s around you. That feeling was the starting point for this design.

The Dragonfly Garden Shrug is inspired by those quiet garden moments, when everything feels light and unhurried. The dragonfly stitch creates an open, airy texture that mimics movement and flow, while the simple construction keeps the making process relaxed and enjoyable.

Worked from a rectangle that gently folds into a cocoon shape, this shrug comes together without fuss or frustration. No complex shaping, no overwhelming steps — just a soothing rhythm of stitches that lets you enjoy the process as much as the finished piece.

It’s light enough to wear on warm days, cozy enough for cool evenings, and designed to drape effortlessly over whatever you’re wearing. A soft, wearable reminder of dragonflies drifting through a garden — calm, graceful, and easy.

When you make this shrug I would love to see it and share it on my instagram! Please tag me on instagram @letsallcrochetwithakita!

So, why the name Dragonfly Garden?

For obvious reasons! The shrug has the stitch and they seem to be so many just like dragonflies in a garden!

Inspiration

This stitch had been living in my head for a long time. I always thought I’d use it for a scarf someday… but I never quite got around to it.

Then a few days ago, I ordered a new teal DK yarn, and suddenly everything clicked. Instead of a scarf, all I could think about was turning the dragonfly stitch into a shrug — something light, wearable, and easy to throw on.

Once I started, it flowed effortlessly. The stitches just worked, the fabric draped beautifully, and before I knew it, the shrug was finished in just a couple of days. It came together so smoothly that even I was surprised. It felt like it was meant to be.

Yarn details

Yarn: Any dk or light weight or weight 3 yarn can be used.

I chose a light worsted weight yarn because I wanted the shrug to feel light and drape beautifully.

Stitch details:

We will use basic crochet stitches like double crochets, single crochets, shells, and chains to make this shawl. The pattern repeat is a bit complicated and explained in detail for each round, with a video tutorial linked in the pattern.
